About this artwork

Fragments of African and Middle Eastern maps sit alongside a large stenciled portrait, its blue tinted face and dark crescent shape rendered in the graphic style of street graffiti, while below, handwritten Arabic text in bold black spray covers a grey panel and a winged figure in a red football shirt appears stitched between them. A pink stenciled "NoSc" stamp, cropped Arabic posters, and a profile portrait of two women fill the lower register, the whole surface a dense accumulation of image fragments with no single dominant focal point.

Companion to the first Cairo Streets tapestry, this panel intensifies its hybrid, collaged construction, political portraiture, protest graffiti, geographic maps, and popular imagery layered without hierarchy across the fabric. Abou El Naga offers no unified view of the city here, only accumulation itself, Cairo assembled the way the tapestry's own surface is assembled, fragment pressed against fragment until the whole reads as a single, dense field of overlapping identity, history, and mark.
